Crowcon Detection Instruments Ltd is proud to celebrate 50 years of business in 2020.
In 1970, Crowcon was established, with a factory located in Stokenchurch, just outside Oxford in the United Kingdom. Crowcon became one of the first innovators in gas detection – and have enjoyed continuous growth ever since.
Over the course of the next 50 years, Crowcon would go on to bring many ground-breaking innovations to market and become a recognised gas detection specialist worldwide.
We have celebrated many key milestones during our 50 years of business, pioneering more than 15 technologies and “industry firsts”, and becoming a Halma Plc company in 1985, to name but a few.
Four pivotal drivers have been instrumental to our growth and longevity in business:

Today, there are now over 500,000 Crowcon gas detection solutions in use worldwide by a vast range of industries, from steel production to utilities, petrochemical to food and beverage production, clean and wastewater treatment to oil and gas and many more.
From our humble beginnings in a small factory in Stokenchurch, Crowcon products are today developed in world-class R&D and manufacturing sites in both the United Kingdom and China with Crowcon offices and services centres located in 7 different countries. Our solutions are distributed by a trusted, accredited network of global partners, providing on-the-ground local sales and service support in every pocket of the globe.
Over the past five decades, our range of gas safety solutions has continuously evolved to include some of the most recognised products in industry. As we move forward, we will continue to expand into new markets, building on our gas sensing expertise.
Our global product range now encompasses both fixed and portable gas detection solutions, flue gas analysers, control panels, sample systems and our most recent innovation – Crowcon Connect, our digital gas safety and compliance insight solution, paving a new era for the value we can deliver our customers.
As a result, in 2020, Crowcon stands as one of Halma Plc’s largest companies, recognised as a top performing business in process safety and most importantly trusted by millions of people around the globe who rely on our solutions to keep them safe.
