Photron CMOS Sensor-Based Video Camera for Motion Picture Applications

The new Fastcam BC2, a high-speed, high-definition, and high-speed video camera, will be showcased during the 2010 National Association of Broadcasters Show, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, by Photron USA Inc.

Photron High Speed Camera System

The same team that designed the APX high-speed camera, which won the Emmy award, is behind the design of this state-of-the-art camera.

Compatible with the Nikon F-mount PL, and B4 and lenses, and the Sony HDVF-C30WR HD viewfinder, the BC2 can be interfaced easily to existing or/and new broadcasting equipment. Extra advantages for applications in broadcasting include extremely low noise and a 2.76 µs shutter.

This camera, designed for the broadcast market specifically, is ideal for large-screen motion picture production, TV broadcast, sports OB and commercial applications. A new CMOS sensor in this camera has a resolution of 4 mega pixel or 2,000 x 2,000 to 1,000 fps, and 12-bit dynamic range, enabling it to offer a complete 1080 high definition resolution of 1920 x 1080 up to 2,000 fps, as well as a reduced resolution that is over 86,000 fps. The BC2 incorporates an instant playback feature through the dual HD-SDI outputs that are present on the rear panel of the camera.

It is possible to achieve total camera control via the remote control key keypad that is connected through the RS-422 port, the rear panel, or via the RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet using the free FASTCAM Viewer (PFV) software of Photron.

Videos recorded utilizing PFV software of Photron will result in automatic replay at a speed selected by the user through the HD-SDI outputs. The video can also be downloaded through the Gig-E for subsequent viewing. Photron is a worldwide leader and manufacturer of high speed imaging systems.
