Magal Security Systems, an international provider of safety, security and site management products and solutions, has been awarded a research and development contract to enhance the PipeGuard system.
A research organization associated with a major gas utility in the US has assigned the contract to Magal.
The PipeGuard system, based on geophone technology, is an intrusion detection system designed for protecting assets located below the ground. It protects and warns about buried cables and pipes against excavations. The system consists of multiple PipeGuard sensor units that are interlinked via a cellular or wireless mesh network. The alarms generated by the system are shown on a geospatial map.
Magal’s PipeGuard system was selected by the research organization for its ability to proactively alert about occurrences of excavations near the buried gas pipes. This would help prevent dangerous and disastrous events.
