A SMK subsidiary headquartered in Tokyo, SMK Europe has launched its RemoPad that incorporates SmartMotion Technology developed by Movea in order to develop an advanced remote control for satellite, IPTV and cable operators.

Movea’s sophisticated motion sensing techniques allows the RemoPad to utilize gesture recognition to simplify navigation via the user console, reduces the number of buttons required on the remote and provides an innovative method of interaction with future TV services.

The Chief Executive Officer of Movea, Sam Guilaume stated that the company was delighted that the remote control manufacturer was using Movea’s technology to create the innovative RemoPad.

The general manager of SMK Europe, Patrick Delanoeije stated that the company will display intuitive and novel paradigms based on the SmartMotion technology for using and navigating advanced digital media at the IBC 2011. Delanoeije also added that Movea has been supportive in helping the company develop motion-driven capabilities that allow for unique interactions with content and an improved entertainment experience for the end-user.

SMK’s partnership with Movea was used in the creation of control devices for interactive TV services and Set-Top Boxes. Through interactions and product display with service providers, SMK aims at integrating motion sensing with state-of-the-art pointing devices in order to deliver UI’s designed for navigating through digital media.

The SmartMotion technology developed by Movea offers pixel accurate control with precise and smooth movement. Advanced gesture recognition, libraries with gesture information, air signature authentication and personalized preferences of settings and favorite stations ensure a better interactive user experience.

SMK Europe will be addressing service providers and Set-Top Box suppliers and reveal the RemoPad at the RAI Convention from September 9 to 13, 2011.
