Fingerprint Cards Extends Touch Sensor Range with Smaller Fingerprint Sensors

Fingerprint Cards (FPC) today launches FPC1021, the smallest touch fingerprint sensor to date from FPC. Building on the previously announced FPC1020 technology and our related market success, FPC1021 extends the FPC Touch sensor range.

FPC1021 is more than 30% smaller in size than the previously launched FPC1020 and comes pre-integrated with software and matching algorithms for Android and Windows, in order to facilitate minimal effort for integration with device OEMs. FPC1021 combines industry-leading performance with an aggressive reduction in sensor size compared with FPC1020. Despite the smaller size, FPC1021's industry-leading performance has been possible thanks to major advancements in the matching algorithm that comes embedded with FPC1021. FPC1021's small size enables device OEMs to freely integrate a touch fingerprint sensor into devices in cases where the device has physical constraints in accommodating a touch fingerprint sensor.

Complete FPC1021 LGA sensors were sampled a few weeks ago and the first deliveries of engineering samples to customers are starting now. Thanks to the highly scalable architecture of FPC's touch fingerprint sensor technology, which enables extensive reuse of the FPC1020 technology, mass-market manufacturing will start during the third quarter of 2014, less than three months later than the equivalent for FPC1020.

Jörgen Lantto, Executive Vice President, CTO and Head of Strategy & Product Management at FPC, comments: "With FPC1021, FPC is demonstrating that we are serious in our aim of leading the deployment of touch fingerprint sensors for Android and Windows device OEMs. As previously announced, our first touch fingerprint sensor FPC1020is now becoming integrated in the first commercial mobile devices, and with FPC1021 our objective is to further extend our leading position and confirm FPC as the market leader in touch fingerprint sensors. FPC intends to continue to develop and launch globally best-in-class touch and swipe sensor variants in the months and quarters to come."
