Siemens to Exhibit New Portfolio for Monitoring Explosion-Hazard Areas at Security Trade Show

The Siemens Building Technologies division will exhibit its new portfolio for monitoring explosion-hazard areas at Security in Essen, Germany, the world's leading trade show for security and fire safety.

Siemens will present new products for fire detection, for example for labs, storage rooms in processing plants, refineries and chemical companies. The new portfolio consists of multisensor detectors, a safety barrier and a manual call point.

Multisensor detectors for explosion-hazard areas

The multisensor detectors are deployed in explosion-hazard areas of zones 0/1/2 (gas). According to Directive 99/92/EC, these zones are areas in which a hazardous, explosive atmosphere can occur continuously, occasionally or temporarily as a mixture of oxygen and combustible gases, vapors or mist. The multisensor detectors for these areas detect smoke and use the dependable and deception-proof ASA technology (Advanced Signal Analysis) for maximum reliability. All detectors are individually addressed to enable exact localization of an emerging threat – so that response teams can intervene fast and precisely where they are needed.

Safety barrier as an interface

As a coupling element of the Field Device Network (FDnet), the safety barrier is a key component for connecting explosion-hazard areas. The barrier separates the non-threatened zone from explosion-hazard areas. It does not require an external power supply or a connection to the equipotential bonding earth line. It integrates two functions in a single device: the safety barrier and the galvanic coupler, thus reducing the amount of installation work required.

Manual call point for all explosion-hazard areas

A manual call point has been added to the new portfolio for explosion-hazard areas. In addition to the areas in zones 0/1/2 (gas), this detector can also be used in zones 20/21/22 (dust). In these zones, a hazardous, explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud – made up of combustible dust present in the air – can occur continuously, occasionally or temporarily.

Siemens as a full-service provider of intelligent security solutions

The Siemens division will exhibit its latest portfolio of solutions, products and services in the areas of security and fire safety at the Security trade show. Siemens will present itself as a full-service provider of technologies and services for intelligent security solutions in commercial buildings, data centers and critical infrastructures such as chemical companies and airports. Highlights of the company's exhibits include the Desigo CC building management system, a new version of the Siport access control and time management solution, new aspirating smoke detectors and a new portfolio for monitoring explosion-hazard areas.
