Elza Erkip, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, has received the 2013 IEEE Communications Society Award for Advances in Communication for her paper “User Cooperation Diversity-Part I: System Description," which was published in the journal IEEE Transactions on Communications in 2003.

U.S.-Canada Team Successfully Communicates with Advanced Extremely High Frequency Satellite

Canada recently became the first Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) international partner to communicate using the Lockheed Martin-produced satellite system. The U.S. Air Force has been allowingselect groups to use AEHF for testingas it fields the system, but this expansion means more users beyond the U.S. could soon have more frequent access.

Dairy Cow Breath Analysis Reveals Heritable Variability

Researchers in Denmark have measured the quantities of greenhouse gases in the breath of dairy cows and demonstrated a heritable variability between individual animals. “This means that we have an opportunity to select for breeding those individuals which will produce offspring that generate less methane,” says Dr Jan Lassen who led the research project on individual methane measurements from dairy cows at Aarhus University.

Data Translation Releases Enhanced Analog Output Modules

Data Translation announces the release of enhanced performance versions for its DT9853 and DT9854 USB analog output modules. The new versions have four or eight outputs with 16-bit resolution and can now also provide continuous analog waveform streaming at up to 8 kHz. ±300 V galvanic isolation ensures safe operation, high signal integrity and excellent noise performance even in harsh industrial environments.

Raytheon Delivers Over 500 Tactical Active Electronically Scanned Array Radars for Multiple Platforms

Raytheon Company announced today it has delivered more than 500 tactical active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars for multiple platforms worldwide -- an industry first. The company's AESA portfolio -- including the APG-79, APG-63(V)3 and APG-82(V)1 radars -- has also achieved more than 400,000 cumulative operational flight hours on F-15, F/A-18E/F and EA-18G aircraft.
