Arkansas Researchers Receive Additional $200,000 NSF Grant to Develop High-Temperature Integrated Circuits

Engineering researchers at the University of Arkansas have received an additional $200,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to continue developing integrated circuits that can survive and operate at temperatures greater than 300 degrees Celsius – equivalent to roughly 600 degrees Fahrenheit.

BAE Systems Awarded U.S. Army Contract for Integrated Night Vision and Thermal Targeting Solution

The U.S. Army has awarded BAE Systems a five-year contract worth up to $434 million for the company’s integrated night vision and thermal targeting solution, which improves the speed and accuracy of targeting by dismounted soldiers. The new offering helps troops to rapidly and covertly acquire targets in all weather and lighting conditions.

US DHS Enters Agreement with One Resonance Sensors to Evaluate MobiLab® ES Checkpoint Security Scanner

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) has signed an agreement valued at $3,003,383 with One Resonance Sensors, LLC (ORS) to evaluate the company's MobiLab® ES checkpoint security scanner, which detects explosives in electronic devices. The agreement funds the evaluation of the scanner at a number of government facilities in the US and Europe.

A pair of newly published papers in The Condor: Ornithological Applications lay out a method for outfitting birds with geolocators or radio transmitters that cuts precious weight from the package, allowing the devices to be used on very small birds, and demonstrate that the trackers do not harm the birds or impede their migration.
