IXYS Announces Availability of New Low Frequency, Half-Duplex, Read-Only RFID Transponder

IXYS Integrated Circuits Division (ICD), Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corporation, announced the availability of the NCD1015ZP, low frequency, half duplex (HDX), read-only RFID transponder.

The NCD1015ZP operates at a resonant frequency of 134.2 kHz, has 64-bits of pre-programmed or custom-programmed identification data storage and utilizes a 16-bit CRC error checking code generator to ensure data integrity. This transponder supports ISO 11784 and ISO 11785 standards.

Using the power acquired from harvesting the RF energy transmitted by the RFID reader, the passive transponder responds by sending out a 128-bit packet that contains the stored 64-bit data, a 16-bit CRC-CCITT error checking code, and the overhead bits necessary to ensure transmission recognition. The integrated ferrite antenna enhances the tag's reading distance over what is obtained by non-ferrite antenna designs, while the polyurethane encapsulating material boosts the mechanical robustness making the tag suitable for deployment in harsh environmental conditions.

“This product was developed by our IXYS San Sebastian Division, which is our ASIC and RFID division in Europe, and contains the proprietary RFID SOC IC, that our team designed and produces, and sold through our Integrated IC Division and IXYS’ sales channels worldwide,” commented Dr. Nathan Zommer, founder and CEO of IXYS Corporation.

“In this product, we demonstrate our capability to integrate our RFID IC in a compact package for ease of use and deployment by our customers. It contains innovative features for low power, energy harvesting and security. We can develop further customized products for our customers, based on these technologies for a variety of applications,” commented Dr. Javier Hernandez, Founder and GM of IXYS San Sebastian.

The NCD1015, 50mm HDX RFID 64-bit Data Transponder, is available with a pre-programmed identification code (ZP) or a custom-programmed identification code (ZPC). Typical applications include inventory management, ingress/egress discovery, real-time container tracking, manufacturing production flow control, vehicle identification, security access administration and high value asset monitoring. The NCD1015ZP and NCD1015ZPC are available in production quantities.
