Lockheed Martin to Advance IUSS for the U.S. Navy

Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems and Global Solutions-Defense unit have been selected by the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) department of the U.S. Navy to advance its common Integrated Undersea Sensor System (IUSS) Integrated Common Processor (ICP) system for improving the underwater inspection process and conditional awareness. The IUSS is capable of guiding the Navy operators to detect and trace the submarines and surface ships globally.

Lockheed Martin has been offered a $24 million agreement from the San Diego-based Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) to supply upgraded sonar signal processing systems and innovative technologies for use in IUSS signal processing and for furnishing un-manned submarine identification and tracking to lower manual operations, uncomplicate the training of operators, maintain lower expenses, according to the company officers.

The IUSS is a vast-area ocean floor inspection technology to track submarines and surface ships and is equipped with constant sonar sensors and hydrophones encompassing the Advanced Deployable System (ADS) relocatable sonar sensor field; the Sound Surveillance System (SOSUS) and Fixed Distributed System (FDS); the Surveillance Towed-Array Sensor System (SURTASS) aboard long-lasting surveillance ships and the Surveillance Direction System (SDS) that supplies control, command, communications and information blend to couple the efficiencies of SURTASS FDS and SOSUS.
