PME Unveils New Conductivity Sensor for T-Chain Sensing String

Precision Measurement Engineering (PME) is a global oceanographic and limnologic tool design company.

Conductivity sensor

It has designed and manufactured a novel conductivity sensor that can be used with its T-Chain sensing string. The T-Chain is a water column monitoring equipment.

The sensor uses an inductive sensor method to determine conductivity. The core of the transformer receives AC voltage that incorporates the flow of current in the surrounding water. A second transformer core senses this current. The conductivity sensor has been developed for research applications in hypersaline lakes and estuaries where high precision conductivity is not necessary.

At present, the T-Chains are used to observe lake and reservoir thermocline and separation. They detect variations in oxygen, record lake turnover, monitor internal waves, eddies and upwelling and gather information on ice. The T-Chains can measure real-time statistics by means of GSM mobile phone.
