AutoLiv declared its plans to acquire the license for the advanced automotive vision systems from Hella Aglaia Mobile Vision.
After this acquisition, AutoLiv and Hella would work together towards further development of the technologies. Hella Aglaia Mobile Vision is a subsidiary of Hella KGaA Hueck.
Through this acquisition, AutoLiv would have exclusive rights over the monovision algorithms from Hella for Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Light Source Recognition and Lane Detection. With the help of TSR technology, the driver is able to maintain the right speed and is able to follow other traffic rules as well. The lane Detection technology is useful in issuing warnings to the driver shifts to wrong lanes by mistake. Finally, the Light Source Recognition enables automatic identification of the head and tail lights when vehicles go past each other or meet. By implementing this technology, distraction to other drivers can be avoided. AutoLiv and Hella plan to take their relation further by working together in enhancing the existing technologies for serving automotive and truck applications. Some of the advanced technologies they would be working on are forward collision warning and pedestrian detection systems.
Kay Talmi, the Managing Director of Hella sees this acquisition as a winning combination of experience in automotive safety and vision sensor technology. This integration is expected to be complete by early 2012.
