CAS DataLoggers Supplies Remote Structural Monitoring Solution for Copper Mine

CAS DataLoggers has supplied dataTaker DT80 intelligent data loggers and dataTaker CEM20 channel expansion modules to a copper mining company for monitoring its structure. Potentially dangerous situations such as subsidence or ground movement had to be monitored for ensuring the safety of the machinery and the miners.

Copper Mine

Three DT80 intelligent data loggers along with CEM20 channel expansion modules were installed at important structural points. This configuration enabled 105 analog channels. The dataloggers were connected to hollow inclusion cells and full bridge extensometers for collecting data on rock stress, strain and tensile conditions. The channel expansion modules enabled sufficient coverage of the mine’s structure. The office was at a distance of approximately 2 mi from the dataloggers and was connected with an RS232 communications link for viewing data in real-time, retrieving logged data and for sending commands.

The dataTaker DT80 intelligent dataloggers feature a rugged design that can withstand extreme conditions. They can measure and log DC resistance, current, voltage and digital signals. They have an input measurement range of ±30 V with an 18-bit resolution. The DT80 has a dual channel concept that allows 15 common or 10 isolated referenced analog inputs. The readings are shown on a built-in display. The DT80 has a programmable serial sensor channel, phase encoder inputs, and high-speed counter inputs that can be connected to different types of sensors. These values can be scaled and logged. The devices can store up to 10 million data points and help simplify data management at the copper mine.
