Self-Powered EnOcean Wireless Sensor for Building Automation Systems

EnOcean will offer the Dolphin platform, the first wireless sensor modules that are self powered and provide two-way communications at the Lightfair 2010.

Besides transmission of important building data, these modules are also capable of receiving the building system’s outputs, for instance, changing the operating modes or set points to ensure conservation of energy and optimal performance.

During the Lightfair 2010, EnOcean will showcase these wireless, self-powered and sturdy sensor based building automation networks. A novel iPhone App for monitoring and controlling the building lights will also be demonstrated by the company.

During the Lightfair 2010, twenty partners of EnOcean will show case innovative EnOcean-enabled lighting systems. These partners include Dimonoff, Leviton, Illumra, Verve Living Systems, Echoflex Solutions and BSC-Magnum.

BSC-Magnum has developed this App for monitoring and controlling the EnOcean-based wireless systems for almost any location. The building lights can be dimmed or switched on by merely moving a finger on the switches of the iPhone, besides providing instantaneous status and enabling the electrical devices’ remote control like switching off electrical equipment, starting a PC and activating the lighting scenes. The system integrators will be able to view real time data like humidity and temperature by the iPhone App. Users will be able to monitor overall kilowatt hour utilization for managing costs and energy usage.

The Dolphin platform enables new building automation applications. For instance, capturing energy through different differentials of temperature now facilitates self powered actuators for controlling dampers and water valves. Solar energized room temperature controls will be able to respond to timer and set-point data received from building automation systems on wireless. In this manner large hotels, for instance, will be able to control and lower their consumption of energy, without the need for setting the temperature for every room locally.

This service-free and self powered wireless technology has established the standard for wireless building automation. The modules harvest energy required for transmission of the ambient surroundings’ control commands like thermo, solar and motion. This helps to eliminate expensive and complex cabling in buildings. World over more than 100,000 buildings have installed 450 interoperable products already, thereby confirming EnOcean’s leadership in the wireless building automation field.
