Gas Detection, Identification and Imaging System to Predict Hazardous Leaks

Telops, a leading supplier of high performance infrared cameras and hyperspectral imaging systems for the defense and security, industrial, oil and gas, and environmental sectors has introduced a gas detection, identification and imaging system, the Hyper-Cam GDI, developed to enhance safety in gas and oil environments.

The GDI system helps to detect, identify and visualize gas leakages and to monitor the emission of highly toxic fugitive gases from a safe distance.

The GDI system provides quick real-time feedback in all sections of gas and oil industry, from exploration to production, drilling and refining. With this feedback, the responsible authority can rapidly and accurately determine where the emission or leak occurs, type of leaked gases and the direction of gas plume. Knowing all these information, the personnel makes informed decisions to safeguard surrounding communities and personnel, and to ensure environmental safety.

The GDI system increases the utility of high resolution hyperspectral images to simultaneously detect and identify different types of gases from a predefined safe distance. Smart gas detection algorithms have been incorporated in the user-friendly software to regulate the GDI system’s hardware, thus the system operated efficiently in challenging environments.

Telops’ Product Line Manager, Marc-André Gagnon stated that the GDI system helps them to keep their workstation safer in the gas and oil industry. The GDI system with its remote detection and identification techniques benefits the personnel to protect themselves and their surroundings from hazardous situations.
