Textron Systems Completes Acquisition of UGS Provider, Crane Wireless Monitoring Solutions

Textron Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary Textron Inc., has completed the acquisition of sensor networks company Crane Wireless Monitoring Solutions (WMS).

The acquired is a provider of wireless sensor networks for base and border security applications and force protection and services the U.S. Air National Guard, U.S. Army, U.S. Department of Energy, and commercial clients. WMS is well known for its VantedgePoint Remote Monitoring System and MicroObserver unattended ground sensor (UGS) system.

According to the terms of the acquisition, WMS will operate as a part of Textron Defense Systems, the operating arm of Textron Systems. Its 25 people workforce will operate under the umbrella of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) business of Textron Defense Systems. No other details were of the acquisition were disclosed.

General Manager and senior vice president of Textron Defense Systems, Mark Catizone, stated that WMS’s expertise in radio communications, signal processing, and radio communications complements has the ISR product portfolio as well Urban and Tactical UGS systems. The performance and reliability of the sensors developed by WMS have proven their superiority over self-healing and self-forming radio networks. Foreseeing a growing market, Catizone believes that the acquisition will extend the company’s product portfolio.
