Echologics Announces Availability of Fixed Leak Detection Solution, EchoShore System

Utilities can now accurately detect and monitor leaks on selected water transmission mains from the office—24/7—with the availability of the EchoShore™ system, a fixed leak detection solution from Echologics.

Echologics, an affiliate of Mueller Co., is a developer and provider of acoustic-based technologies for water loss management, leak detection and pipe condition assessment. It is part of the Mueller Water Products, Inc. group of companies.

Echologics is demonstrating the EchoShore system during the American Water Works Association's annual conference and exhibition in Boston, June 8-11. As part of the demonstration, Echologics will monitor leakage, pressure, temperature and chlorine concentration on a 48" cast iron main.

The EchoShore system leverages components of Echologics' next-generation LeakFinderRT™ technology and combines it with GPS and cellular telemetry, creating a network capable of continuously monitoring critical water transmission mains and alerting utilities to leaks before they result in catastrophic main breaks. The multi-functional monitoring system is fully configurable for any 4-20mA sensor and can therefore monitor a variety of parameters, including water quality, pressure and flow, creating a virtual SCADA system for transmission mains.

Using sound properties to track the noise activity in a transmission main, the EchoShore system is designed to collect data and send it to a central receiver. The acoustic vibrations are then analyzed to determine the precise location of a leak. The system is designed to alert utilities to the leak location and leak size via email, SMA, phone call or an Echologics-based customer interface.

"By providing 24/7 leak monitoring, the EchoShore system can detect leaks earlier and help cities avoid potentially catastrophic failures," said Marc Bracken, vice president and general manager of Echologics. "The EchoShore system is deployed non-intrusively without any disruption of water operations and delivers information in a timely manner allowing municipalities to address the issue before it becomes more significant."

The EchoShore system is part of Mueller Water Products' Intelligent Water Technology™ portfolio of products and services that actively diagnose, monitor and control the delivery of safe, clean drinking water to consumers and businesses.
