Texas Instruments Incorporates AuthenTec’s Fingerprint Sensor into its Fingerprint Development Kit

AuthenTec, provider of touch control, identity management and security solutions, has announced the integration of its ATW310 fingerprint sensor into Texas Instrument’s TMDXBDKFP5515 Fingerprint Development Kit, which is a low cost, novel fingerprint development kit.

C5515 DSP-Based Core Board and Extension Board

In this kit, the adoption of biometric feature is simplified and product design cycle time is brought down for fingerprint-enabled physical access control product designers, including attendance and time monitoring systems, electronic door locks, USB smart keys and data storage devices among others.

This new kit brings together the ATW310 sensor and Texas Instrument’s new C5515 digital signal processor (DSP) for providing precise and rapid fingerprint matching by using the power of the DSP for performing essential functions, such as sorting, filtering, and transforming in the fingerprint algorithm.

Texas Instruments’ C5000 DSP Product Marketing Manager Fei Gao stated that the company chose to partner with industry leader AuthenTec as they wanted to deliver a development kit that is cost-effective and still perform accurate and fast fingerprint matching. Gao also added that system designers are likely to appreciate the sturdiness and performance of C5515 FDK, partly propelled by the C55x DSP system, which brings down the consumption of power and helps efficient execution of codes.

The Director of Mobile Systems Marketing at AuthenTec Dave Coons commented that the company is pleased to partner with Texas Instruments for this product integration, which greatly benefits novice system designers.

The ATW310 is a fingerprint sensor that has excellent memory efficiency, which is especially needed for quick fingerprint recognition. In July 2009, the ATW310 product was acquired by AuthenTec from Atrua Technologies, Inc. along with the product’s associated inventories.

The core board of the TMDXBDKFP5515 kit measures 30mm × 30mm, with the extension board measuring 70mm × 30mm. The kit also complies with portable application requirements. The two-board structure offers excellent flexibility in design.
