ViviSat Granted License to Provide Space Based Remote Sensing

ViviSat LLC announced today that the Commercial Remote Sensing Regulatory Affairs Office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, an agency of the Department of Commerce, has granted ViviSat a license to provide space based remote sensing on up to 10 of its Mission Extension Vehicles (MEVs).

NASA to Launch Two Sounding Rockets Through Aurora Borealis

This winter, two sounding rockets will launch through the aurora borealis over Norway to study how particles move in a region near the North Pole where Earth's magnetic field is directly connected to the solar wind. After the launch window opens on Nov. 27, 2015, the CAPER and RENU 2 rockets will have to wait for low winds and a daytime aurora before they can send their instrument payloads soaring through the Northern Lights.

US Navy Awards $42 Million Contract to Mercury Systems for DRFM Jammers

Mercury Systems, Inc., announced that its Mercury Defense Systems (MDS) subsidiary was awarded a firm-fixed-price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) time and material contract worth up to $41.8 million to deliver 200 advanced miniaturized Digital RF Memory modulators (Mini DRFM) to the U.S. Navy. The contract was received in the Company's fiscal 2016 second quarter. Work will be performed at the Company’s Cypress, Calif. facility and is expected to be completed in November 2020.

Alicante Researchers Develop Biosensors to Detect Neurotransmitters and Metabolites

The need for low-cost portable devices to measure substances of medical or biological interest (blood sugar levels, for instance) is growing, primarily within the health sector, though also areas such as food quality and environmental monitoring. Sending samples off to a clinical chemistry laboratory for analysis is expensive, and it takes a long time for results to reach the patient. Devices for use in the field. at point-of-care or in non-hospital settings would constitute an efficient alternative were they able to give accurate readings under non-laboratory conditions.
