Agreement Between Eutelsat and Mediaset to Expand Digital Television Channels

Elettronica Industriale, network operator of Mediaset, and Eutelsat Communications, have signed a 12-year agreement for capacity at the HOT BIRD video neighborhood.

This development will increase  the number of transponders from the company to five and will support Italy's national changeover to a completely digital broadcasting landscape, and add channels to its set-up of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) transmitters. According to Andrew Wallace, chief commercial officer at Eutelsat, this partnership reiterates the importance of the satellite systems incorporated into broadcasting solutions to enhance content delivery.

According to Antonio Preti, head of television transmission services at Elettronica Industriale, acquisition of the new satellite and the ATLANTIC BIRD 3 would help his company provide Digital Terrestrial Television channels to rebroadcast towers. His company would also be able to offer live footage of news, sports and other events to viewers across the nation. He also added that Eutelsat's satellite systems play a key role in his company’s infrastructure.
