LG Achieves Mass Production Run Rate for Silver Nanowire-Based Touch Panels using Cambrios’ ClearOhm® Ink

Cambrios Technologies Corporation, the leader in silver nanowire-based solutions for the transparent conductor markets, and the CEM (Chemical & Electronic Material) Business Division of LG Electronics (LG), today announced that LG has achieved a mass production run rate exceeding a million units per year for its silver nanowire-based touch panels.

LG is currently shipping in large volumes to tier one OEMs in USA, China, Taiwan, Korea and elsewhere. The products range from 15.6-inch diagonal size up to 65-inch diagonal size touch screen modules for large tablets, laptops, All-In-One (AIO) PC and desktop monitor applications.

Using Cambrios’ latest ClearOhm® production ink (Jupiter), LG is able to mass produce silver nanowire coated films to develop touch sensor panels, that are lighter, thinner, flexible and more cost effective than traditional glass-based Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) sensors. The two companies are also closely collaborating to build the next generation of silver nanowire-based touch sensors that offer improved outdoor performance using, the newest silver nanowire inks from Cambrios.

“We have enjoyed a long, strategic partnership with LG Electronics,” said John LeMoncheck, president and CEO of Cambrios. “The company’s ability to make best-in-class touch sensors using our ClearOhm silver nanowire material has resulted in many design wins and large volume shipment of products to global tier one PC makers.”

“We are meeting the growing market demand for best-in-class touch panels by offering a full suite of solutions including patterned sensor films and complete touch sensor modules,” said Do-Hyeon Kim, vice president and the head of LG CEM Business Division. “Cambrios’ silver nanowire products enable sensors that are thin and lightweight, qualities that are well-suited to the needs of the industry. With technology from Cambrios and LG’s high speed roll-to-roll coating process facilitates the manufacturing of low resistance transparent films and touch modules, that offer our customers high performance and competitively-priced products.”

With significantly higher conductivity than traditional materials, appealing visual performance with no optical effects like Moiré that plague the metal mesh technologies, Cambrios’ next generation silver nanowire-based touch sensors are perfectly matched for PCs, monitors, tablets, mobile and flexible devices. This state-of-the-art silver nanowire solution enables touch sensors with even better conductivity and transmission making it the world’s best touch screen sensor of its kind.

Cambrios will be showcasing its ClearOhm coating material, including touch panels and end products using LG’s touch sensors, at CES 2015 in its exclusive suite at the Westgate Las Vegas Hotel. CES is being held in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center on Jan. 6 – 9, 2015.
