Mediso, University of Tübingen to Develop Silicon Photomultiplier Sensor Technology-Based Preclinical PET Insert

University of Tübingen and Mediso Ltd announced today at the 4th Tübingen PET/MR Workshop to enter into a collaboration to develop a whole body preclinical PET insert based on silicon photomultiplier sensor technology. This system can be inserted into a high field (7T) preclinical MRI scanner to enable simultaneous PET/MR imaging.

Middle East Air Base Selects Blighter B400 Series E-Scan Radars to Secure its Perimeter

Blighter Surveillance Systems, a British electronic-scanning (e-scan) radar and sensor solution provider, has been selected to supply its Blighter B400 Series e-scan radars to secure the perimeter of a strategic air base in the Middle East. The contract was awarded to Blighter by Unlimited Technology, Inc., a security market systems integrator based in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. The contract value was not disclosed.

Exelis-Built Cross-Track Infrared Sounder Ready for Integration onto NOAA JPSS-1 Spacecraft

The Cross-Track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) built by Exelis in Fort Wayne, Indiana, shipped last week and is ready for integration onto the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Joint Polar Satellite System-1 (JPSS-1) spacecraft. The satellite is scheduled for launch in 2017.

New Fully Integrated Proximity and Ambient Light Sensor in Compact Package from Vishay Intertechnology

The Optoelectronics group of Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today introduced a new fully integrated proximity and ambient light sensor featuring Filtron™ technology in one of the market’s smallest surface-mount packages. Measuring only 4 mm by 2 mm by 1.1 mm, the VCNL4040 combines an IR emitter, photo detectors for proximity and ambient light, a signal processing IC, and a 16-bit ADC.

Precipitation Radar on NASA-JAXA's TRMM Satellite Observes Eyewall of Tropical Cyclone Maria

At 11 p.m. local time (1324 UTC) on Feb. 19, 2015, the Precipitation Radar on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite observed the eyewall of Tropical Cyclone Maria in the Coral Sea. At that time, Marcia was rapidly intensifying to category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, a little more than 12 hours before an expected landfall in Queensland, Australia.

Flexible, Self-Powered, Wearable Fever Alarm Armband

University of Tokyo researchers have developed a "fever alarm armband," a flexible, self-powered wearable device that sounds an alarm in case of high body temperature. This armband will be presented at the 2015 IEEE International Solid State Circuits Conference, San Francisco, on 22-26 February, 2015. The flexible organic components developed for this device are well-suited to wearable devices that continuously monitor vital signs including temperature and heart rate for applications in healthcare settings.
