Sensorex Releases FCL400 Series Free Chlorine Sensors

Sensorex has released the FCL400 Series Free Chlorine Sensors for providing instantaneous calculation of free chlorine up to a value of 10 ppm. The sensors can be availed in three different ranges like 0-2 ppm, 0-5 ppm and 0-10 ppm.

The measurement is obtained as a distinct 4-20mA output, enabling to interface data into a PC or other devices with a 4-20mA input. Optimum flow conditions for accurate measurement are offered by a flow and cell regulator.

FCL400 Series Free Chlorine Sensors

The new sensor uses amperometric technology for measuring free chlorine levels instantaneously. Its modular layout with minimum-maintenance and extended life makes it cost-effective. It does not require frequent substitution of sensor cartridge. It also involves minimum installation time.

Once hypochlorous acid (HOCl) passes through the membrane of the sensor, it is reduced electrochemically. It emits electrons and forms a low current flow relative to the concentration of free chlorine in the solvent around the sensor. The output is transformed to a 4-20 mA direct output. The sensor can function at 4-11 pH, 0-45°C of temperature and a pressure of up to 14.7 psig.

The FCL400 series sensor can be used in several water applications in the municipal used water, drinking water treatment, commercial and industrial facilities. In these applications, chlorine is used as a common chemical for killing microorganisms that can disturb industrial processes and affect the health of human beings. The chlorination method needs a highly precise measurement method for assuring effective results and security. Low chlorine levels in water may not get rid of the germs properly and if chlorine levels are high, the water may be difficult  to consume and can also cause several health issues.

The Sensorex sensor includes a modular layout, facilitating easy set up in a broad range of configurations. It can be utilized in new as well as in prevailing Sensorex FC72 Flow Cell installations. It can also serve as a substitute for other free chlorine (FCL) or 4-20 mA output ClO2 sensors in third party flow cells.

The FM001 Flow Meter can be installed along with the FCL Sensor to optimize the flow of medium for superior levels of device stability, resulting in precise measurement of free chlorine. The 4-20 mA output signal of the sensor can be used with both Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The sensor can be deployed in broad applications ranging from compact independent single-point chlorine measurement stations to large-scale systems along with control rooms for observing several measurement points.
