Fingerprint Cards Receives Second Design Win for Swipe Sensor Technology

Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has received its second Design Win (DW) for its swipe sensor technology from one of Japan’s leading and most innovative mobile phone manufacturers. The initial volume is estimated at minimum one million mobile phones and the first model launch is scheduled for the second quarter of 2013. Due to the competitive situation, the mobile phone manufacturer wants to remain anonymous for the time being.

Siemens Adds Flush-Mount Models to Communications-Enabled Sensor Line

The Siemens Building Technologies Division has added KNX-compliant flush-mount models to its Symaro sensor line. In addition to capturing the temperature, humidity and air quality, these new communications-enabled sensors can also control these parameters as well as switch lights on and off and control sun protection systems. The devices support a wide variety of configuration options and can be customized to each specific application.

African sleeping sickness is an infectious disease that is widespread south of the Sahara Desert. Although the around sixty million people residing in tropical Africa run the risk of becoming infected with the disease every day, only around four million of them are monitored for the disease by disease-control authorities. TU Darmstadt bioscientists have recently developed a biosensor that provides simple, cost-effective, means for diagnosing incidences of the disease before it breaks out.
